Instead of raising children, too many parents seem to consider them as possessions, something that they don’t want to lose.

Kudos to you that you are “raising” your children to adulthood so that they can live and function on their own.

Years back, we allowed a “friend” to live in our basement for a while and on weekends he was accompanied by his 10 year old son. Said son wanted to help with breakfast one morning, so I handed him a knife to cut up something. He looked at me. “I’m not allowed to handle a knife.”

“What?” Instead of backing down, I went on to teach him how to safely use a knife. When he bragged to his mom that he had learned to use a knife, I thought she would have a stroke.

Yes, please, raise your children and let them grow up and make decisions on their own.
