It's not just Facebook. Most of social media and communication applications have been overtaken with con artists.

In 1997, I gave myself internet (dial-up) for Christmas and met my husband in one of the AOL chat rooms in 1998. I had been schooled at work about the dangers of meeting and talking to people on the internet, so safety was of the utmost precaution. We talked in the chat rooms and on the individual chat lines for weeks and finally began talking on the phone (long distance call charges included). We finally met 5 months after his initial request for prayers for his sister.

Now, my husband gets at least 3 new communications a week from women who start with "Hi, how are you?" and eventually ask for money or want to come here to meet him. Some, when he asks them what the catch is, tell him they want to be his weekend hook-up. When he confronts them and says that is prostitution, they get offended.

It takes all kinds out there. The best thing we can all do is be alert with our eyes wide open.
